Recruiting new forever members (online event)
About the event:
Strategic thinking for groups who would like more musicians, singers or volunteers to join them. We’ll be using examples from successful Making Music groups to look at how you attract new people to take part in your group, not just for one time, but for all time.
Attracting new participants – musicians, singers, or volunteers for promoting groups – is top priority for most Making Music member groups. Even if your participation numbers are healthy, continuing to attract enthusiastic members who stay with you for the long term can still be a big challenge. In this event we’ll look at strategies you can use to reach out to and connect with the new members you really want – those that will stick with you forever.
We’ll look at your group’s brand; how you talk about yourself, what makes you unique and what will draw people to you. We’ll explore how taking an inclusive approach to marketing your offer can break down barriers for any potential new members. We’ll consider the opportunities in your own communities to meet and reach out to local people and networks. And we’ll imagine ourselves as first time attenders at your group; what changes could you make that would make sure that first visit is the first of many?
We’ve gathered some excellent case studies from Making Music members which we’ll present. And there will be opportunities for you to reflect on your own experiences of recruitment – What has worked and where have you got stuck?
Our presenters from the Making Music team are Alison Reeves, our Access and Inclusion Lead, and Miranda Glen, Manager in Wales who leads - and recruits for - her own choir.
We'll talk about:
- Branding: defining your Unique Selling Point
- Marketing: the inclusive sell
- Connecting: meeting potential members in your community
- First visit: converting a first timer to a forever member
There will be an opportunity to ask questions during the event.
