Solent Symphony Orchestra, Portsmouth Choral Union, Portsmouth Baroque Choir, Fareham Philharmonic Choir, Portsmouth Grammar School Choir and HM Royal Marines Band will gather at Portsmouth for the Portsmouth 100 Sing Gala Concert, celebrating the city’s centenary.
The programme highlights music linked to Portsmouth, including three works by Freda Swain, the city’s leading 20th-century composer, championed by Professor George Burrows, who will also present a free lecture-recital. A new commission,
Portsmouth: Stone, Sand and Song, premieres alongside favourites such as Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man, Parry’s Blest Pair of Sirens and Jerusalem, Rutter's Gloria, McDowall Ave Maris Stella and Walton’s Portsmouth Point. The event is supported by Portsmouth City Council.
