Access and Inclusion – Simplified! (online event)
About the event:
Making sure your activities and events are accessible and include a wide diversity of people is a priority goal for many music groups. But are you putting off taking action? This event will suggest some simple tasks to get you started, or to move you further towards creating a truly inclusive group.
If your activity is accessible and inclusive of a wide diversity of people, there are many benefits for your music making and events. But lots of people still face challenges when coming to and taking part fully in music activity. How can you spot the barriers to taking part that are in your musical environments, and what can you do to make a difference?
This event is designed for volunteers running leisure time music groups who are time-poor but are enthusiastic widening the diversity of people taking part in music. We’ll look at the common barriers to music participation and concerts and give you a new perspective so you can spot the barriers in your own spaces and activities. We’ll talk through some actions you can take that don’t need more funds or resources, and how to get others involved to spread the load. And we’ll show you a template action plan, so you can be more strategic in deciding and taking the actions that will really make a difference.
This practical session will be led by our Access and Inclusion lead Alison Reeves as part of our Access and Inclusion programme. There will be time for you to ask questions and talk to each other about the challenges and successes you’ve found when working to create inclusive environments.
We'll talk about:
- The common barriers to taking part in music activity and performances
- Spotting barriers to taking part in your own group’s activity
- Simple actions you can take that make a real difference
- Using our template action plan to get your group focused and successful with change
